Sunday, La Latina, door shut behind you
Weekends are busy here. People head out for the Sunday market, lunch that goes on into the afternoon, a walk down to the river. Then they come back and the keys are on the other side of the door.
Sunday is a normal working day for me. Here's what to do:
- If a child, someone vulnerable or a pan on the hob is inside, call 112 first.
- Phone or WhatsApp me at +34 663 48 41 13. Tell me the street and whether the door was locked with the key or just pulled shut.
- You get the price and the exact arrival time, checked on Google Maps, before I set off.
- Have your ID and your rental contract, or booking plus the host's OK, ready to show.
Came back and the door has been forced?
Flats that are empty during the day, like holiday lets, can attract the wrong kind of attention. If you find marks on the door, a broken lock or the door ajar:
- Don't go in if you think someone could still be inside. Call 112.
- Don't touch anything if you're going to report it. Let the police see it as it is.
- Take photos of the door, the lock and any damage.
- Call me. Once the police are done, I make the door secure so you can sleep there tonight.
- Keep the invoice. I give you a factura with everything I did, for your insurance or the owner.
Old buildings around Palacio and Ópera
Around the Royal Palace and Ópera the buildings are grander and older: big wooden street doors (the portal), wide staircases, high ceilings. Inside, flat doors range from original wooden ones to puertas blindadas (armoured doors) or acorazadas (heavily reinforced doors) fitted later.
Many people here stay for weeks or months: families visiting, people on work stays, relatives of residents. With older doors, the typical problems are:
- An old key that has worn down and no longer catches.
- A heavy door that drops slightly and makes the lock jam.
- Several keys on one bunch, and nobody remembers which one does what.
On the phone, describe the door and the key. That's how I can give you a fair price. If you can, send a photo by WhatsApp: one picture of the lock tells me more than a long description.
Lost your keys in the crowds?
On market days and busy evenings, the streets of La Latina are packed. Keys slip out of pockets, bags get left on a bar stool, or a bag gets taken. If your keys are gone and you don't know where:
- Retrace your steps calmly. Bars here often keep lost items behind the counter.
- If your address was with the keys, for example in a wallet, don't wait. Changing the bombín (the lock cylinder) after I open is from €150, and old keys stop working.
- If it was stolen, report it to the police and keep the report with my invoice.
In a holiday flat, tell the host before anything is changed.
How much it costs
Opening a door: €150–250, call-out included. The final figure depends on the door, the lock, whether it was locked with the key or just shut on the resbalón (the latch), and the distance. You get it on the phone before I set off, and it's what you pay, Sunday or not.
If the lock needs changing after a break-in or a failure, lock changes start at €220 and high-security locks for armoured doors also from €350. Only with your yes. More on the prices page.

Call, I come, I open
Call or WhatsApp me
Tell me what happened, what kind of door it is and where you are. A photo of the lock helps. Before I leave I tell you:
- The price of the opening, fixed.
- When I'll arrive, checked on Google Maps right then.
I come myself
No call centre. The person you speak to is the person who turns up.
If the door isn't what you described, I tell you before I touch anything and you decide.
I open the door
Without breaking the lock whenever possible. If it has to be broken, I explain why and ask first.
You pay what we agreed and get an invoice.
What I guarantee
The price I give is the price you pay
The opening price agreed on the phone doesn't go up when I arrive.
No parts without your OK
Cylinder, lock or reinforcement: quote first, then your yes. Say no and you only pay the opening.
Invoice, always
For every job, even at 3 a.m. You'll need it for your insurance or your landlord.

Call 112, don't touch anything if you'll report it, and take photos. Then call me to make the door secure; you'll get an invoice for insurance.
My old key doesn't catch the lock any more. Can you help?
Yes. Once the door is open, I can change the cylinder (from €150) or the lock (from €220) if you want, with the price agreed first.

Your ID plus the rental contract, or your booking confirmation and the host's OK for a holiday let. It's a quick check that protects you.
