Can't get in? What to do in Toledo
- Emergency inside? If someone who can't help themselves is in there, or the oven or hob is on, call 112 straight away.
- Contact your host or landlord. In holiday lets the owner often lives nearby or keeps a spare key with a neighbour.
- Ring me or send a WhatsApp to +34 663 48 41 13. Tell me the street and, if you can, a church, square or gate close to you. Old town addresses are easier to find that way. The WhatsApp button on the site asks to share your location and sends it to me as a Google Maps link, so I know exactly where you are.

Old town doors: why they're different
A lot of houses in the old town keep their old wooden doors, often thick and heavy, sometimes with large old-style locks or a second lock added years later. They need patience, not force. My aim is to open the door without damaging wood that can be hard to repair or replace.
Common problems I see here:
- An old lock that turns halfway and then jams.
- A key that snaps or bends inside a worn mechanism.
- A newer flat door inside an old building, locked with the key while the guest is outside.
- Key boxes at tourist flats that won't open or hold the wrong key.
If a worn lock needs replacing, I explain the options and fit it only if you agree. A new bombín (the lock cylinder) starts at €150; a full lock change starts at €220.
Getting to you in the old town
I come from Fuensalida, in the same province. Before I set off, I check the route on Google Maps and tell you the time.
In the old town, the van can't always get to your door. Many streets are narrow, steep or cobbled, and some are closed to traffic. So I park at the nearest spot I can and walk up with my tools. It helps a lot if you tell me a well-known place near you, or wait for me there.

While you wait, stay somewhere you feel comfortable: a bar on the square, a hotel lobby, the entrance of the building. Keep your phone charged and the volume up, because I'll ring you when I'm parked and on foot, so we can meet without anyone getting lost in the lanes.

A door opening is €150–250, with the trip included. Coming from Fuensalida, the distance is part of the price, along with the type of door, the lock and whether it was only pulled shut or locked with the key.
A guest who pulled the door of a holiday flat shut is usually a simpler job than an old lock that has jammed with the key turned. Whatever the hour, you hear one clear figure before I leave, and that's what you pay. Anything extra, like a new lock, is your choice.
